Accommodation and travel expenses for locum tenens

Although accommodation and travel costs are carried by many of the hospitals not all the medical facilities will pay the expenses for locum tenens. We understand that as a medical locum you need to have as much information as possible about your future locum work, including accommodation and travel arrangements. As such we will confirm any arrangements in this regard with you in writing before the placement takes place.

As a general rule of thumb you can assume that the expenses for travelling are not paid for the locum tenens by the employer if not specifically mentioned as such. You will find that some of the hospitals will reimburse the locum tenens for travelling expenses at their own discretion. When travel expenses are covered it normally means one return trip from the place you stay by bus or train. Reimbursement of travelling expenses for the medical locum does not extend to taxi fares.

Although single accommodation was often included in the package for locum tenens for the period of medical recruitment placement, it is no longer a given. As such the hospital will do so at its own discretion. We will confirm whether accommodation is or is not included in writing before placement is done.

General Practice locum doctors normally have to arrange their own accommodation and the travelling expenses are not reimbursed. Many of the employers will reimburse the GP locum tenens should they have to make home visits or make use of overnight accommodation during the course of their locum recruitment.
